Five Nights at Freddy's is a computer game that pits players against the mascots of a pizza restaurant, giving them only a limited set of tools to survive.

Five Nights at Freddy's is a phenomenon. It takes the term "jump scare" away from horror fans and placed them firmly in the lexicon of gamers and for good reason. In the role of a night watchman at a children's pizza parlor, you'll get scared repeatedly by a host of animatronic creatures who are out to end your life. The game's got an impressive atmosphere, a great sense of sound design, and it's got a weirdly deep universe that players have enjoyed diving into for years.

The big problem with the first Five Nights at Freddy's game is that it just doesn't hold up on a second play through. As with most games that are all about atmosphere, it's not until the second go around that you start to notice all the little flaws. The jump scares get very old after you've seen them once, and you'll quickly begin to notice that you don't have a lot of agency in the game once you get past the frights.

Five Nights at Freddy's is a juggernaut, and it's probably something the average computer gamer should try at least once. It's not a perfect game, and it's probably not something you'll play very often after you beat it the first time, but it's still a good game. The downsides of the game really only kick in after the first play through, so you're almost guaranteed to have a great time the first time around. Just remember - the game isn't real.
